Nineteen people have died as a result of cult clash in Aluu community, Ikwere Local Government Area and Obite community in Rivers State, Nigeria.
Reports have it that gunmen said to be members of the Greenlanders cult group, in reprisal against a rival group, Icelanders invaded Aluu community and killed 15 persons, including a nursing mother.
A naval personnel, who was among the Joint Task Force (JTF) team that went to the area to bring the situation under control, was hit by a bullet from the cultists.
This situation has been described as a battle for supremacy between the cult groups.
The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ikwere LGA, Samuel Nwonosike, told journalists that the situation was overrated and that the government has intervened by chasing out culprits, while normalcy has returned to the affected areas.
Eyewitnesses say some innocent persons were caught in the crossfire.
