President Muhammadu Buhari has met with the leadership of the National Assembly for decisions on the 2016 budget.

In attendance of the meeting were the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara. The meeting also had present, the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Mr. Udo Udoma.

According to reports, the meeting lasted 10 minutes. Thereafter, Dr. Bukola Saraki told State House correspondents that they have all agreed on the way forward. He assured that the long process of verification will be completed and the budget will be signed in a couple of days.

He urged Nigerians to understand that the process was not always easy but a resolve has been made and the budget will very soon be given a presidential assent.

Dr. Saraki explained that the committees set up on the executive and legislative sides will come together in the next few days to orderly trim up the loose ends and produce a budget everyone will have no issue with.

Earlier in the day, the Speaker of the House of Reps held a closed door meeting with the President in Abuja.

Culling from what the spokesperson of the House of Representatives, stated on Sunday, he said that members of the legislature would continue discussions with the executive during the week to resolve some grey areas in the 2016 budget.

Mr. Namdas explained that the delay in the signing of the 2016 budget is not on the part of the National Assembly but because the President isn’t convinced to sign the document.
