Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has noted that he found lots of wisdom in the advice offered him by immediate past President, Goodluck Jonathan, where he urged him to seek the support of his predecessor, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, if he is to achieve his 2019 presidential ambition.
It would be recalled that Jonathan had in an interview advised Atiku against ignoring Obasanjo ahead of the 2019 elections, describing the latter as a bigwig in Nigeria’s political sphere whom no politician can afford to jettison.
Jonathan had said: “He (Atiku) can’t get the APC ticket. If Atiku gets our party ticket, he would compete well.
“He’s always a passionate politician. But he would have to reach out to our boss, Baba OBJ, the boss of all bosses.
“We’ve all learnt at different times that you ignore OBJ at your peril. OBJ has the magic wand. He is respected at home and abroad.”
Speaking on Sunday, Atiku’s spokesman stated that his principal would not jettison Jonathan’s advice, noting that he remained committed to work with meaningful individuals in a bid to achieve his presidential ambition.
“His Excellency, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, is a savvy politician and he will not discountenance the importance of carrying everybody along in order to build a consensus,” he was quoted as saying by Punch.
