PORT HARCOURT BOOK FESTIVAL
This holds every year and has been active since its inaugural edition in 2008. It was organised by the Rainbow Book Club and funded by the Rivers State Government to promote tourism and literary awareness in the capital city. Attendees over the years have included Wole Soyinka, J.P. Clark, Ngugi wa Thiong’o, Kofi Awoonor, Jesse Jackson and Elechi Amadi.
AKE ARTS & BOOK FESTIVAL
This 6-day festival is Africa’s biggest literary event. It is organised by the Book Buzz Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation founded by Lola Shoneyin. Every year the festival draws writers, publishers, artists, journalists and filmmakers around the continent to the culturally rich city of Abeokuta in Ogun State, Nigeria. Abeokuta has a deep history and is the title of the first book of Wole Soyinka’s famous memoirs.
LAGOS BOOK AND ART FESTIVAL
Aimed at promoting the reading culture of the youth, the Lagos Book & Art Festival is an annual event held in Freedom park on the Lagos Island for four consecutive days. It includes workshops for teens, panel discussion on literature and book sales from publishers across the country. It has been tagged “Africa’s biggest culture picnic”.
