Keeping a relationship is a big deal but getting into one is an even bigger deal. The secret to a long, and successful relationship begins from the start of the relationship.
It is from the moment you meet your partner or at least a few weeks after the initial meeting that you figure out whether or not the relationship will either work or go the way of the natural order of life and death.
While we all have a list of qualities we expect our partners to possess before deciding if they are the ones we’ve been waiting for, there are general qualities to look out for that will reveal to us that they are ready to stick it out in a committed and long-term relationship.
A serious partner will always treat you with the utmost respect. That means never ridiculing you or running you down, and always keeping their promises. Respect is one of the most important factors that builds a relationship, and if they are not ready for a serious and committed long-term relationship with you, they will definitely not respect you.
A relationship might not always begin with friendship but a good relationship should definitely blossom to include a good friendship. Your partner should be your friend as well as a lover and to do that, they need to pay attention to your needs and your problems. They should be someone you know you can talk to, and just as importantly be someone who you know will actually listen. If they can’t be bothered to listen to your concerns and fears, then they are not interested in going the distance with you.
Kindness is always a good trait for any individual. If your partner is kind to you, it means they care about you. Showing care, love and concern is always a good sign for someone who is ready to go into a long-term relationship with you. Kindness means they want the best for you, and what better person should you be with than the person who wants the best for you.
Honesty from the first day, is an essential part of any relationship and, if there is any sign of dishonesty at all, you should be thinking hard about whether this is the right partner for you. A good partner would never tell a lie, because even a little lie, is breach of your trust and it is showing you a lack of that, all important, respect that was earlier mentioned.
5. Making plans with you in mind
A partner who has a long-term relationship with you in mind will make plans towards the next few months and years of you two together. They will make plans with you in them and discuss those plans with you because in their five or ten year goals, they still see your committed, long-term relationship working and that is the ultimate sign that they are ready to stick with you for the long haul and not just for the winter or rainy period when they need a snuggle buddy until the season is over.
