Seven months after showcasing “wanderlust” at the Heineken Lagos Fashion & Design Week, the eponymous womenswear label finally presents us with its lookbook and it is, to say the least, quite disappointing.
According to her, she was inspired by pink skies & sunsets. She said: “it has to do with a mood and feeling, more than anything.”
The palette for the inspiration are pertinent, presenting different hues of pink like salmon, baby, blush, coral, with a shock of vermilion tulle layers that hemmed the bottom of a spaghetti strap dress with an embroidered lace bodice.
On paper, that sounds like something that should work. Where the problem lay was in the tailoring and in the choice of fabrics. Bodices jumped away from the body awkwardly, the fabrics registered cheap, and the general feel of the collection came across as student project, particularly from a designer who isn’t a new comer to the Nigerian fashion industry.
Wanderlust? The collection felt like I was lost in wonder. And in a bad way.
