Three soldiers are soon expected to face trial in the military court for illegally accompanying a man, Prince Onyemauche, who paraded himself as a Colonel of the Nigerian Army.
The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman said the allegedly “faux” Colonel was arrested on February 16, 2016 along Wazobia motor park in Gwagwalada by troops of the 176 Battalion.
According to Usman, Prince Onyemauche – a resident of Lagos and an indigene of Imo state, was arrested with an AK-47 assault rifle with four magazines loaded with 42 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a luger pistol, 21 x 9mm parabellium ammunition, and the sum of N1,011,300.
Other items recovered from his vehicle include; six GSM handsets, one Samsung galaxy Tablet, 12 cheque booklets, six ATM cards, driver’s license, a temporary driver’s license belonging to Rasaq Olanrewaju, INEC voters card, one expended case of 9mm parabellium ammunition, seven funds transfer forms for Zenith Bank and Ecobank and a sales invoice number 19822 for Blessed Triplet pharmacy.
The first stage of the investigation has shown that the suspect has been in continuous practice of illegally acquiring Army escorts when going to the village or going to Abuja for business transactions.
