The Adamawa State Police Command said the suicide attack occurred around 5:20 a.m. local time, at Kunu Araha, a suburb in Mubi North while prayers were ongoing inside the mosque.
Spokesman of the Adamawa police command, Othman Abubakar, confirmed the tragic incident but did not give the casualty figure.
Meanwhile, emergency aid workers and other first responders put the death toll at 40, stating that about 40 dead bodies have been evacuated.
“A boy of about 17 years entered a mosque and proceeded to where the Muslim worshippers were and detonated an improvised explosive device. So many, above twenty died in the incident,” an eye witness recounted.
