The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives is a humorous tale similar to the classic play, Our Husband Has Gone Mad Again, except with a modern twist to the story.
After Baba Segi marries his fourth wife, he is bothered by her childlessness and seeks outside help from his favorite, long-time medicine man.
Baba Segi’s quest to impregnate his newest, educated wife leads to revelations of such monumental and grand design that it shakes Baba Segi’s existence and instantly changes everything he thought he knew.
The language is simple and the dialogue is funny and animated. The story is told from different character’s point of view which increases the suspense of the revelations made and adds to the fluid telling of the story from the varied “voices”.
It is a story about secrets, both marital and individual, and how everyone has their own secrets they hide and keep neatly tucked away in the folds of their wrappers or head gears or flabby belly fat. It is a light, comical read that is bound to leave you with a chuckle and then a laugh but also a brief moment of reflection when you’re done reading.
