After seeing the huge turn out to welcome him to Kano State on Wednesday at the beginning of his 2-day official visit to the northern state, President Muhammadu Buhari, became confident he can trump any candidate he comes up against in the 2019 election.
President Buhari was moved by the outpouring of affection from the people of Kano State, leading him to slip about his undeclared 2019 re-election prospects.
Recall that President Buhari had slipped about his re-election bid over a week ago when he visited Abidjan, Ivory Coast. On that visit, he joked about winning states whose Governors traveled with him.
Eight days after that hint, President Buhari again let slip the possibility of another campaign when emotions came over him at the sights and sounds of the enthusiastic Kano crowd that welcomed him to the Emir’s Palace.
“I’m overwhelmed by the sea of heads I see, and by what I see today, if elections are contested, I have no doubt I will win it,” he said at the palace which was the first port of call as soon as he arrived Kano.
He was accompanied by his host, Governor Ganduje, Governor Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa State and the deputy governor of Zamfara State, Alhaji Ibrahim Wakala.
