NPFL Champions, Rangers International on Friday held hosts, JS Soura of Algeria to a 1 – 1 draw in the first leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round tie.

Striker, Bobby Clement scored in the 43rd minute to cancel out a 32nd minute strike by Soura’s Bourdin Abdelrahmanne.

It was Rangers 49th CAF Champions League game while it was JS Soura’s first ever CAF Champions league game.

The Flying Antelopes secured an away win in the competition the last time they visited Algeria in 1982 but a draw with an away goal means they have an advantage going into the second leg in Enugu.

The second leg will be played next weekend at the Cathedral, Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium, Enugu.
The overall winner of the tie will face last year’s finalists Zamalek of Egypt in the next round before the money spinning group stage of the competition.

Nigeria’s other representative in the Champions League, Rivers United are in Mali to face AS Real Bamako on Saturday. The time is 6 p.m. Nigerian time.

In the second-tier category, the CAF Confederation Cup, Nigerian Federation Cup winners, FC Ifeanyi Ubah are at home to Egyptian side, AL Masry on Sunday while Wikki Tourists on Saturday will meet RSLAF of Sierra Leone in the Small west African Country.
