26 September 2016
I had the pleasure of attending the exclusive and first African launch of the Herrera Confidential, a new fragrance line by design power house Carolina Herrera on the 15th of September, 2016 at the luxurious George Hotel, Ikoyi Lagos. The event was put together by PR firm, GlamBrand Agency, headed by Bola Balogun.
On arrival, a hostess ushered me into the opulent world of Carolina Herrera, exquisitely decorated with black and gold hues, an all-white sitting area, images of Carolina Herrera and her daughter, Carolina Herrera de Baez, sketches of Carolina Herrera dresses, the 6 fragrances lining the walls, as well as 100ml bottles of the fragrances and their key raw ingredients. The experiential room was indeed reminiscent of Carolina Herrera’s personal style and conveyed the ethos of the brand.
I was motioned to take red carpet photographs along with the other guests behind the giant Herrera Confidential media wall after which I was then handed a glass of champagne by the same host. As I sipped on my bubbly and enjoyed camaraderie with a few guests, the serenading melodies of violinist Godwin Strings began to fill my ears and heart with warmth. The event had kicked off and Astrid Gelabert, the Brand Manager for Carolina Herrera began her speech with introductions before going on to speak about Carolina de Baez Herrera who served as fragrance director for the fashion house, describing the story of how she initiated the project to create a fragrance collection embodying the timeless sophistication and impeccable style of her mother. This was accompanied by a video, screened at the event.
After the video, Linda reintroduced the Brand Expert- Emeshe Nencov who took the guests into the private world of Herrera Confidential by demonstrating how to mix the fragrances and accompanying oils to personalize it for themselves. She also announced that the Herrera Confidential line will be exclusively retailed in Essenza stores at The Palms Mall in Lagos and Jabi Lake Mall, Abuja. I got a whiff of all six fragrances – Herrera Tuberose, Oud Couture, Burning Rose, Amber Desire, Neroli Boheme and Nightfall Patchouli – the Amber Desire and Nightfall Patchouli were my favorites with scents so intense, sensual and timeless. Since we were also allowed to try out the four essentials oils, I jumped at the opportunity of sampling the natural-based scents made of the finest quality and purity intended to be used on the skin individually or mixed to personalize the fragrance experience.
After Emeshe’s demonstration and some fun product sampling, for the second segment of the event, we were led into the breath taking private dining area decorated with fine linens, china and of course an enchanting array of floral bouquets for a delicious 3 course meal. Besides the enjoyable international cuisine, the highlight of the event was Godwin Strings- who once again serenaded us with such great musical notes guests like myself and few others couldn’t help but abandon our meals to bust a few moves. I hadn’t had this much fun at a work event in forever.
As I made my exit, one of the hostesses handed me an exclusive gift bag containing Herrera Confidential fragrance, Tuberose (not any of my favs, just my luck I guess!), sample bottles of the essential oils for each fragrance as well as Carolina Herrera coffee table books courtesy of the brand. The event was a success, graceful, well put together and so much fun. Kudos to GlamBrand Agency for all the work and effort it took in putting it all together.
