The home based Super Eagles were held to a 1 – 1 draw by Kano Selected XI in a warm up friendly clash in Kano on Tuesday.

The CHAN Eagles have been engaged in a series of friendlies ahead of this weekend’s crucial African Nations Championship Qualifiers first leg tie against Benin Republic.

Tuesday’s game was the second friendly in a week in Kano and served as the final preparatory game before they head to Benin Republic by road on Friday.

The Kano selected side took a surprise 1 – 0 lead going into the break but Rangers’ Osas Okoro converted a late minute free kick to rescue a draw for the home-based Eagles

In the previous preparatory friendly game held last Friday, the home-based Eagles beat Kano Pillars Feeders 3 – 1 thanks to a brace from Akwa United’s Alhassan Ibrahim and a goal from E-Kanemi Warriors forward, Mathias Samuel.

The return fixture holds in Kano on August 19. The winner of the two-legged encounter will secure a place at the 2018 African Nations Championship in Kenya.

Nigeria were bronze medalists in the 2014 edition held in South Africa but crashed out at the group stage in the last Edition held in Rwanda in 2016 after coming third in a group that had Tunisia, Niger and Guinea.

The African Nations Championship, CHAN, is the Africa Cup of Nations equivalent for players who play in the domestic league of their various countries and in leagues within the continent.
