Reigning Premier League champions, Chelsea, failed to close the gap on first placed Manchester City and second placed Manchester United after they suffered their fourth defeat of the season in the hands of West Ham at the London stadium.
Five defeats was all Chelsea suffered last season when they won the league. This season, however, Chelsea is already one defeat away from that feat, after just 15 games.
Chelsea went to London stadium having not lost in their last four Premier League games. But Marko Arnautovic’s 6th minute strike was enough to hand the Blues a surprise defeat and give West Ham new manager, David Moyes, his first win in charge of the Hammers.
Chelsea went on to record 19 shots at West Ham’s goal, but were unable to convert either of the two they managed to get on target. While this shows the ineffectiveness of Chelsea’s attack, it just as much shows the effective of a resolute West Ham defence.
With this defeat, Chelsea will be hoping both United and City drop points when the two teams clash on Sunday in the first Manchester derby of the season.
