A group known to be the Niger Delta Avengers claimed responsibility for recent attacks on a Chevron platform in the Niger Delta region.
Spokesman of the Nigerian Navy, Commodore Chris Ezekobe, who also confirmed the incident on Thursday, said that the attack occurred about 40 miles from the Escravos terminal, around Warri in Delta State.
Meanwhile, Chevron Nigeria Limited has said its Okan offshore facility is currently shut-down and that it is assessing the situation while measures have been deployed to respond to a resulting spill.
It is reported that the attackers are the same who carried out another on a Shell Oil pipeline in February which was forced to shut down the 250,000 barrel-a-day Forcados export terminal.
