Five persons sustained injuries on Monday following the collapse of part of the Department of Architecture building under construction at the Kano State University of Science and Technology, Wudil.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Shehu Musa, disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Kano.

He said two of the injured persons had been treated in a hospital and discharged.

Musa debunked rumours making the round that 20 persons lost their lives in the incident.

“As I am talking to you now, nobody has lost his or her life because of that incident which happened around 1 p.m. today.

“Only one of the victims has a fracture on his hand, while the remaining two are responding to treatment,’’ he said.

He said that shortly after the incident, the authorities of the university alerted the Fire Service, excavators, and security agencies.

“Excavation work has since started and whatever the outcome will be, it will be made public. But at the moment, nobody lost his life,’’ he stressed.

The vice-chancellor added that the school had also conducted roll call of workers on duty at the site and all were found including the injured.

He called on parents to ignore the rumour being peddled as no student sustained injury or lost their lives.

“We are calling on parents not to bother as none of the students lost their lives in the unfortunate incident,’’ he added.

According to him, the university will set up a committee to find out the cause of the incident with a view to taking precautionary measures to prevent recurrence.
