Construction of section two of the Lagos-Ibadan dual carriageway (Sagamu-Ibadan) resumed last week in fulfillment of the commitment the contractors, Reynolds Construction Company Nigeria Ltd, made to the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola to mobilise at the site latest yesterday.

Julius Berger Construction Company who is handling the Lagos-Sagamu interchange section of the expressway has also returned to continue work on the site.

The Lagos-Ibadan expressway has undergone many years of patch work renovations and re-constructions that were eventually abandoned and left uncompleted after the contractors siphoned off much of the funds meant for its construction.

However, towards the end of former president Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, construction began again on the road with an additional expansion project to convert it into a dual carriage expressway.

The 2016 budget graciously includes the completion of the project as well as the construction of other additional road, rail networks and bridges.

Speaking at the Town Hall meeting held in Uyo, Akwa-Ibom state on Monday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed listed some of the other road constructions set to resume as well.

Apart from the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, there is also the Bode Sadu-Jebba road, Abuja- Lokoja road, Kano-Maiduguri road and the Loko and Oweto bridge linking Nasarawa to Benue state.

The Minister also said that work would soon begin on the second Niger bridge which was also included in the 2016 budget.

He further expressed with much confidence that as more constructions get underway, more work opportunities will open up for thousands of Nigerians.

The road constructions are not the only ways the Federal Government is hoping to boost employment opportunities for Nigerians.

The N-Power Initiative of the Social Investment Programme of the Government which kicked off two days ago is another way.

The initiative reportedly received over 400,000 applications in the first 36 hours after the portal opened.
