A contemporary dance production, “We Almost Forgot’’, by choreographer, Qudus Onikeku, is set to premier in Abuja on June 26, Ms. Lea Granados, Cultural Programme Officer of the Institute of France in Abuja, has said.
Onikeku, a graduate of the National School of Circus Arts, France, has maintained his presence in Nigeria’s choreographic scene for almost a decade and has won awards in that area.
Granados said the production would also hold in Berlin on June 17, in Lagos on June 24, and in Paris on November. 3.
She explained that the production would feature six dancers from Nigeria, Gabon, Morocco, Algeria, Madagascar, France and one actress of varied background, identities.
“Through the use of high energy movements, story-telling, singing and music, the performance aims at questioning the past, present and body memory.
“The idea is to make a fiction of witness accounts of stories of individuals who have witnessed wars and crises, and to evoke the capacity of our bodies to also keep the memory of traumas,’’ she said.
Granados added that the audience would have the opportunity to interact with the artistes and express their thoughts on contemporary dance and its progression in Nigeria as well as in the world.
She explained that the production fell within a wider project on dance initiated on May 14 and that it was done after an open air audition on “Dancing Cities’’ in Abuja.
