Juventus’ hope of winning a season treble got a major boost on Wednesday as the Old Ladies landed their first title of the season.
First half goals from Dani Alves and Leonardo Bonnuci secured Juventus a 2 – 0 win over arch rivals, Lazio in the final match held at the Stadio Olympico to win a third consecutive Coppa Italia trophy.
Juventus defeated Napoli 5 – 4 on aggregate in the semifinal stage to book a place in the final while Lazio edged out city rival AS Roma 4 – 3 on aggregate to qualify for Wednesday’s final.
Former Barcelona defender, Dani Alves gave Juventus the lead in the 12th minute as his side-footed shot landed into the net.
Leonardo Bonucci scored 12 minutes later to seal the win for the Serie A leaders. Bonnucci slotted home a brilliant knock down by Alex Sandro who also provided the assist for Dani Alves’ goal.
It was Juventus’ first trophy of the season and they can secure the second this weekend when they host Crotone. A victory against Crotone this weekend will earn Juventus their sixth consecutive Scudetto title.
Juventus will meet Real Madrid in the Champions league final on June 3 in Cardiff.
