Diddy is at it again! He has once again proven to be a force to reckon with in the world of hip-hop, not just by his master class raps but by the weight of his wallet as he hip-hop’s highest-paid act.
Sean “Diddy” Combs’ earnings from Ciroc vodka, DeLeon tequila, Aquahydrate water, his Bad Boy Reunion tour, and an estimated $70 million from his Sean John clothing line pushed him to the top of the Forbes list of highest paid artists for 2017.
All his earnings amounted to a whopping $130 million pre-tax in the 12 months till June.
Second on the list is Drake, who has been the most streamed artist for 2 years. His Boy Meets World tour and deals with Apple, Sprite and Nike earned him an estimated $94 million.
Jay-Z ranks third with earnings of $42 million and, this summer, he signed a new pact with touring giant, Live Nation that will pay him $200 million over the coming decade.
Others on the list include usual suspects like Dr Dre and Birdman – the only female rapper is Nicki Minaj while Chance the Rapper and Kendrick Lamar are the only newcomers.
The top 20 this year earned a total of $619.5 million, up 38 per cent from previous year’s $448.5 million, thanks in large part to hip-hop’s dominance in the burgeoning world of streaming.
