Controversial United States Republican Presidential aspirant, Donald Trump has made another comment which has caused a lot of uproar. At the weekend, Trump condemned China’s trade practices as “rape.”
For a while now, America’s middle class have been anxious and frustrated about jobs and pay. Many of them are blaming China for this. In the U.S., 43% of voters believe trade with other countries is a bad thing. They are thus depending on Donald Trump, who has vowed that as President he would fix America’s disastrous trade policies with China. Repeatedly, Trump has accused China of exploiting its currency to make its exports more competitive on the global market and has claimed that China is “killing” the U.S. on trade.
His comparison of China’s trade practices to rape does not thus come as a surprise. He said: “We can’t continue to allow China to rape our country and that’s what they’re doing. It’s the greatest theft in the history of the world,” the Republican prime candidate told his supporters at a campaign rally on Sunday in Fort Wayne, Indiana, referring to China’s high number of exports relative to the U.S.
It is however not the first time he is saying this. In 2011, Trump criticised China’s currency policies to employees who worked at a defense contractor in New Hampshire. “China is raping this country,” Trump told employees at Wilcox Industries, a company that manufactures tactical equipment for U.S. military forces.
