The minister Of Information and culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed is currently trending on twitter due to a statement he made at the sectorial debate of the Federal House of Representative.

He said dressing masquerades could create a thousand jobs per week for Nigerian men. He said this with reference to unexploited potentials in the country. He explained that it takes 200 people to dress and undress a certain masquerade in the South-East.

The minister said “most states today have more than one festival a year, but the packaging and lack of capacity has not enabled them to make the most out of these festivals. There’s a particular masquerade in the south east, it takes 100 people to dress him, another 100 people to undress him. If this masquerade is well-packaged, it can provide employment in one week for more than 1000 young men. These are some of the untapped potentials.”

He also talked about such things as tourism, the importance of tourism and the impact of bribery and insecurity in the country on tourism. However, what has attracted the attention of most Nigerians to his statement is his comment on masquerades. While the statement has caused a ripple of jokes, it has also raised concern over his ability for his job among Nigerians on twitter and other social media platforms.

Here are some of the remarks made:
