The brouhaha that ensued earlier in the week when the Zenith bank account of the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose was frozen by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has led to further investigation which in turn led to further revelations.

According to emerging reports, the EFCC froze the Governor’s Zenith bank accounts after it linked him to the sum of 1.3 billion Naira collected from the Office of the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki who was indicted of misappropriating the 2.1 billion dollars arms fund provided for the fight against Boko Haram insurgency.

With investigation ongoing, reports shows that the EFCC is set to invite the Ekiti State Governor’s wife, Mrs. Feyisetan Fayose for questioning over the sum of N100 million paid into an account she’s joint signatory to with her husband.

The account in question belongs to Spotless hotel owned by the Governor and his wife.

The sum was paid into the hotel’s account: Account name: Spotless Investments Ltd, Account number 1010170969 on June 17, 2014, less than a week to the June 21 governorship election in the state.

The account is a joint account operated in both the Governor and his wife’s name for which they are joint signatories.

A source in the anti-graft agency stated that since Governor Fayose cannot be brought in for questioning by the EFCC because of his immunity status as the Governor of a State, “His wife, however, has no immunity”.

EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren stated that three Zenith bank accounts belonging to Governor Fayose have been frozen by the EFCC in connection with the investigations.

He said the details of the accounts would soon be released to the public.

Two of the Governor’s frozen accounts with account numbers; 1003126654 and 9013074033 were personal accounts.

A top security source familiar with the investigation revealed that the money had originated from the office of the NSA through Senator Musiliu Obanikoro who along with his sons are reportedly hiding in the United States, as he is being investigated for the alleged misappropriation of the same arms funds.
