It has been reported by a human rights group, Human Rights Watch that 382 people including lawyers and activists were arrested by the Egyptian police in the days leading to and during a protest in Egypt. The protest was against a government decision to hand over control of two Red Sea islands to Saudi Arabia.

HRW said six foreign journalists were among those detained, but were later released.
