The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday released former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Anyim Pius Anyim, after the latter spent days in the custody of the anti-graft agency.

Detention!!! Why?

The anti-corruption agency had arrested Anyim over alleged contract fraud and false assets declaration.

On his arrest, the agency ordered the former SGF to return N520m he allegedly collected from former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, as part of #Dasukigate or face prosecution; but Anyim couldn’t produce the money.

What EFCC did next…

In a bid to continue detaining Anyim, the EFCC was said to have obtained an extended warrant to detain the former SGF for 30 days.

Punch reports that Anyim’s passport was seized before he was released on Tuesday and was instructed to report to the commission every two weeks and also return some of the money traced to him.

Why Ayim was released

A source at the EFCC said, “Anyim was released on administrative bail after he had surrendered his passport. He is expected to return some money to the EFCC and also report back every two weeks.”
