After the Misha Collection finale, featuring Bella Hadid as it’s lead model, social media and the fashion industry has been up in arms about the most unlikely of reasons, which has nothing to do with the designs that were presented or Bella Hadid’s performance. Instead, the choice of soundtrack for the final walk, Beyonce’s Formation, has been the talk of the town.
In an industry that is supposed to cater to the world and all races within it, complaints of white washing with over 70% of models in the industry being Caucasians is nothing new. However, when a song choice is made to be one by a black artist, discussing race matters, and the runway features not even a single model of colour, this highlights a problem that is already very much talked about.
The question of how relevant a soundtrack is to a catwalk show remains subject for debate, the Misha Collection are yet to comment.
