It must be a season of inconclusive electoral results as the FCT Chairmanship and Councillorship Elections which held last Saturday, 9th of April 2016, towed the line of the Rivers state re-run elections as results from selected areas within five Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory were cancelled as a result of electoral violence, over-voting and failing to use the Smart Card Reader (SCR).

The Independent National and Electoral Commission had therefore announced that the cancelled elections in the various wards and polling units of the Area Councils will be held today, Wednesday 13th April, 2016.

The affected Area Councils are: Abaji Area Council, which will conclude Chairmanship and Councillorship elections in two Polling Units of two (2) Wards, namely: Nuku and Gawu; Bwari Area Council, which will only be concluding the Councillorship elections in two (2) Wards and three Polling Units; Gwagwalada Area Council, which will also only be concluding its Chairmanship election in one Ward (IBWA) and two (2) Polling Units.

The Kuje Area Council will be concluding both its Chairmanship and Councillorship elections in 12 Polling Units of eight (8) Wards: Gwargwada, Kwaku, Kuje Central, Chibiri, Gudunkarya, Rubochi, Yenche and Kabi. While the Abuja Municipal Area Council will also conclude both Chairmanship and Councillorship elections in 12 Polling Units of eight (8) Wards: Gwargwada, Kwaku, Kuje Central, Chibiri, Gudunkarya, Rubochi, Yenche and Kabi.

According to information provided by the Commission, a total of 39, 647 registered voters are expected to participate in today’s elections. It is hoped that prospered electoral measures will be followed this second time around to ensure credibility and integrity of electoral results.
