Torrential rain and thundery showers on Tuesday have brought an abrupt end to Britain’s all too brief sunny spell.

It rained so heavily cars got submerged in minutes. Lightning strikes also caused fires.

South London was worst hit with three cars becoming completely submerged under a bridge on Wallington High St., with the downpour causing depths of up to two metres in just minutes.

As of 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Southern Railway had reported that all lines were blocked due to flooding between Caterham and Purley.

Thirty minutes later, the Caterham to Purley line reopened and passengers were encouraged to check online before attempting to travel.
