AS Monaco have emerged Champions of French Ligue 1 after a 2 – 0 win over Saint Etienne at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard on Wednesday night.
Monaco needed a point against St Etienne to be crowned the 2016/2017 Champions but ended the night with an even better result as goals from in-form Kylian Mbappe and Valere Germain landed them their 8th Ligue one title.
French wonderkid, Kylian Mbappe gave the hosts the lead in the 19th minute, latching on to a pass from Radamel Falcao and slotted home in a fine finish from close range.
An injury time strike from Valere Germain sealed the win for Monaco.
The win took Monaco to 92 points, six points ahead of second placed Paris St Germain as the league head to a final showdown this weekend.
It was Monaco’s first Ligue One title since 1999/2000 season and ended PSG’s dominance which spanned six seasons.
