Three persons have been reported dead after a fire incident started at a filling station along Muritala Muhammad way in Kano State, Northwest Nigeria.
Eyewitnesses reported that the fire started as a petrol tanker was attempting to unload fuel at about 3:30pm.
“The filling station was already selling fuel when the tanker arrived with fuel, the next thing we saw was inferno which eventually killed the driver and one of his boys,” the eyewitness said.
A number of properties were lost in the fire – vehicles on queue went up in flames, some business centres adjacent the filling station were destroyed after the raging fire spread from the filling station. Although fire services came to put the fire out, other attempts were made to stop the fire.
Meanwhile, the Head of Operation of the National Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) in Kano, Usman Muhammad, said that few other people were rushed to the hospital for injuries sustained while running away from the fire.
