Actress Jessica Henwick was nearly forced to quit Game Of Thrones due to scheduling conflicts with Marvel’s Iron Fist.
The 24-year-old plays one of the deadly Sand Snakes in Game Of Thrones, Nymeria, before she was cast as Colleen Wing in Marvel’s Iron Fist, which threw up the possibility of her leaving the HBO fantasy show.
While she’s confirmed to return in season seven, Henwick’s commitments to Marvel almost made her character ‘disappear’ completely.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Henwick said: “I wasn’t able to do it. My schedule clashed. I was filming Iron Fist for six-to-seven months and they wouldn’t give me the time off.
“[GoT] was so massive for me in terms of my career and building my profile and as an experience in itself, I wanted to return.
A GoT producer explained, “It’s really important that you come back otherwise your character will just disappear.” So I spoke to Marvel and I managed to get a release.’
Henwick’s character Nymeria is part of the show’s much-maligned Dorne storyline, which many fans have criticised for straying too far away from the original source material.
She did however tease how her role would continue in season seven, saying it’ll ‘pick up right where we left off and get into the nitty gritty very quickly. There is no time wasted this season.’
Game Of Thrones season seven will debut in the U.S. on HBO July 16.
