Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City on Sunday extended its winless run to five matches on the trot.
The winless run started with the 0 – 2 loss at Tottenham, then thr 3 – 3 draw at Celtic, the 1 – 1 draw with Everton at the Etihad Stadium, the 0 – 4 loss to Barcelona at Camp Nou and the 1 – 1 draw with Southampton at the Etihad today.
City’s shaky defense was again to blame for this uninspiring performance as it was for the loss to Barcelona.
Southampton took the lead in the 27th minute when Nathan Redmond dribbled past City goalkeeper Claudio Bravo after a missed placed back pass by John Stones found the winger in front of the keeper.
Stones has come under immense criticism in recent weeks for his form, especially his passing. Stones pass on this occasion didn’t find its target, returning Vincent Kompany, and fell to Redmond who made no mistake after rounding the keeper.
Nigerian youngster, Kelechi Iheanacho scored the equaliser for City in the 55th minute, 10 minutes after coming on for Kevin De Bruyne.
This goal takes the Super Eagle’s tally in the Premier League to 11 goals in 17 appearances.
With the draw though, City will remain top of the Premier League log.
