More than 50 people have been confirmed dead while an estimated 200 people have been confirmed injured in a shooting at an outdoor country music festival in Las Vegas, U.S.
The incident is currently being described as the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.
The gunman, identified as 64-year-old, Stephen Paddock shot at the crowd of concertgoers from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino. The shooter subsequently killed himself”, putting an end to his attack.
Analysts are hesitant to call the shooting an act of domestic terrorism as facts about the assailant’s mental state and motivations are yet to be uncovered.
The police have tracked down Marilou Donley, Paddock’s companion. She is currently regarded as a person of interest.
Country singer, Jake Owen described the incident as “shooting fish in a barrel” while analyst, James Gagliano described it as an ambush, citing the gunman’s position, the elevation of the attack and the use of what sounded like an automatic weapon.
U.S. President took to Twitter to express his sympathies for the victims and their families, with his trip to Puerto Rico to survey the hurricane response there now under review.
