Berluti, the men’s tailoring brand owned by LVMH, has announced Haider Ackermann as its new creative director. Ackermann replaces Alessandro Sartori, who was at Berluti’s creative helm for five years.
The Colombian-born, Paris-based designer debuted his thriving menswear line just three years ago, a full decade after his cult-loved, critically acclaimed women’s line first launched. Just like his womenswear line, his men’s collection is also full of romance – dark but sumptuous colors, and his signature drapery are very much present. Kanye West is a big fan.
Berluti is known for leather, and epitomizing luxury in the menswear business. A Berluti suit, for example, will cost you about $4,000. I guess the question now is how Haider Ackermann’s romanticism will blend with Berluti’s classicism. “I don’t want to make men beautiful or handsome. I want to create attitude”, he said to The New York Times fashion critic, Vanessa Friedman.
Ackermann’s romantic attitude fused with classic Italian craftsmanship by Berluti? Sounds like a recipe for success.
His first collection for the brand will be showcased during the menswear shows in January 2017.
