Atletico Madrid striker, Fernando Torres, Thursday night sustained a nasty head injury that saw him rushed to the hospital in an ambulance during his team’s La Liga fixture with Deportivo.
The Madrid team were held to a 1 – 1 draw as the team had to forge ahead without the injured Torres.
Torres was left stricken on the turf as team-mates and medical staff attended to him after a clash of heads. Atletico manager, Diego Simeone insisted he “heard a crack” from the dugout area.
Atleti later confirmed that the player would spend the night in hospital, while a further, more positive, update revealed that Torres was “stable and conscious”.
Fernando Torres has reassured supporters that his nasty head injury was “just a scare” and vowed that he’ll be back soon.
He tweeted: “Thank you all so much for caring for me and for your messages of encouragement. It was just a scare. I hope to return very soon!”
Torres’ two previous Premier League clubs and a couple of his former teammates have sent out solidarity message to him. Leading the charge were Romelu Lukaku, Cesc Fabregas and Didier Drogba.
