Because April was jazz appreciation month, Jazz Music was at the forefront of music in Lagos through the month. With international jazz artists present, Lagos came alive for four days as jazz music took center stage during Satchmo’s Jazz and Culture Festival (SJL). SJL ’16 personified the uplifting spirit of jazz music.
Kicking off on Wednesday 27, April, the festival featured astonishing and extraordinary musical events at Industry Nite. London-based Afro-soul musician, Jon Scott and saxophonist Sax Tee performed together on that night. On the 28th at The Blowfish Hotel, there was some more live music by saxophonist and quasi-vocalist, Phebean, Jon Scott & Sax Tee. Norman Brown, Rick Bruan and Femi Leye were also present delivering their own unique brand of jazz. This ended up creating memorable exhilarating experiences for jazz lovers.
On Saturday night, that is 30th of April, there was a party in Banana Island park, in partnership with The Pattiserie, as International Jazz Day celebrations reached a climax. The festival came to an end the same day, in grand fashion, with IJD Closing Celebration & Afterparty at Vellvett Lounge & Bar.
