Over the past two years, Smoothie has become increasingly popular with Nigerians. More joints serving Smoothie have popped up across major cities.
For the few Nigerians who still don’t know what Smoothie is, it is blended fruit drink; and it is really nice.
It is a known fact that the human body benefits from eating fruits than consuming dairy products and other carbohydrate-based meals.
The simple reason for this is that, fruits provide us with essential vitamins and minerals that are needed to build the body’s immune system, regulate blood pressure, build the hearts walls and vessels among several other things.
Smoothies present the opportunity of blending these fruits together providing the body with an array of different vitamins and minerals, all in one drink.
Drinking fruit smoothies can help you reach the recommended intake of fibre, which is 25 grams for women and 38 grams for men per day.
A meal of fruit typically contains two to four grams of fibre with blackberries, pears and apples having the highest concentration of five to seven grams per serving. The soluble fibre found in fruit helps slow digestion and may help control blood sugar and lower cholesterol.
The idea of smoothies is to avail one the opportunity of having all of these fruits together as a fruit drink rather than a fruit meal.
Smoothie is usually recommended for those with digestive problems and people who are considering shedding some weight.
