American media company, Gawker, is set to shut down after it lost a legal battle with wrestling legend, Hulk Hogan. Apparently, Hogan still has some deft tackles even in the courtroom.

Gawker, the controversial media company founded by Nick Denton and Elizabeth Spiers and based in New York  has been in operation for 14 years – 14 years of always embroiled in intense controversy, more than the average media company.

The American blog which focuses on celebrities and the media industry has a long history of crossing path with celebrities. It’s news often tend to tilt toward the controversial and in some cases, injurious.

It got into trouble with Hogan after releasing a sex tape of the former wrestler. This duel with a man who fought for a living was going to be the death of the company as it left it financially crippled ensuring that it filed for bankruptcy.

There is, however, unconfirmed report Hogan did not take Gawker on all by himself as his legal battle was financed by an embittered billionaire whom Gawker had hurt in the past. Unknown to Gawker, the billionaire did not let go of the past.

Apparently, this billionaire is one of those who live by the saying: “revenge is best served cold”. As it were, the dish he served Gawker turned out to be one it had no stomach for.

This week marks the end of’s operations. In keeping with its controversial nature, it wrote a seemingly last post titled “F—it”. Well it looks like they are certainly F***ed.
