Despite Nigeria’s disappointing outing at the ongoing World Athletics Championship, Leading Athlete, Blessing Okagbare-Ighoteguonor gave Team Nigeria a hope of winning medals as she leapt into the final of the long jump event.

Okagbare who won silver four years ago in the same event at the 14th edition of the championships in Moscow, Russia qualified for the final after a 6.51m second round leap.

In the first round, Okagbare qualified for the second round after a leap of 6.21m in the first round.

The final is slated for Friday night when she will compete against familiar foes like three-time world champion Reese, reigning world and Olympic champion, and USA’s Tatiana Bartoleta, Darya Klishna of Russia, competing as a neutral, Lorraine Ugen of Britain and Ivana Spanovic of Serbia.

Friday’s final is Okagbare’s second appearance at the finals of the event in three attempts.
