The original iPhone launched 9 years ago. The 1st generation iPhone rolled out on June 29, 2007.

After the first generation, the next was the 3G iPhone which launched in July 11, 2008. This was followed by the 3GS on June 19, 2009. Next were the 4, 4S, 5, 5C, 5S, 6/6 Plus, 6S/6S Plus and the iPhone SE subsequently every year till date.

From the date of its first launch, June 29, 2007, till date, the iPhone has sold 700 million units.

The development of what was to become the iPhone actually began in 2004, when Apple started gathering a team of 1000 employees to work on the highly confidential “Project Purple”.

The team included Jonathan Ive, the designer behind the iMac and iPod.

Apple CEO, Steve Jobs steered the original focus away from a tablet, like the iPad, and towards a phone and today, the rest is history.

Although Steve Jobs is dead, his legacy lives on.

Happy birthday in arrears iPhone.
