If the Super Eagles performance in the warm-up match against Plateau United is anything to go by, Nigerians can look forward to Sunday’s clash with the Chipolopolo of Zambia in Ndola with high hopes.
Nigeria’s senior national team under the guidance of Gernot Rohr secured a 3 – 0 win on Wednesday evening at the National Stadium, Abuja, ahead of their 2018 World Cup qualifier match against Zambia.
Having had a number of clear cut chances missed by Leicester City man, Ahmed Musa, the Super Eagles took the lead against the Jos-based team in the 39th minute from an Anderson Esiti’s strike.
The first half ended 1 – 0 in favour of the Super Eagles but that was to change in the second half, in the 57th minute, when second half substitute, Alex Iwobi, added to the tally after team captain, John Mikel Obi, had combined well with midfield partner, Ogenyi Onazi, to set the Arsenal man up for the finish.
The Super Eagles continued dominating the game but had to wait till the last minute of the game for the third goal of the match.
Iwobi added his second of the night with a close range finish to continue his brilliant club form in the national team.
Rohr will be hoping Iwobi takes this form into the match against Zambia while he would be needing to speak to Musa to improve his form, especially in the goal scoring department.
