Donald Glover, an American singer and actor has been cast as Simba in Disney’s upcoming live-action update of 1994 blockbuster, The Lion King.
Glover will be voicing Simba’s character while Mufasa’s character will be voiced by James Earl Jones, who voiced the character in 1994.
Jon Favreau, Jungle Book director announced the casting news via Twitter on Friday.
Under a picture of Glover, he captioned: “I just can’t wait to be king. #Simba”, while writing: “Looking forward to working with this legend. #Mufasa,” under a photo of Jones, who gave voice to the same character in Disney’s 1994 animated original.
Glover also recently took on another iconic movie role after signing up to play Lando Calrissian in the young Han Solo Star Wars spin-off.
Jonathan Taylor Thomas and Matthew Broderick voiced Simba in the original The Lion King.
