It was an intimate affair when Lisa Folawiyo debuted her Spring/Summer 2017 collection during New York fashion week. The presentation was hosted by blogger and style star Tamu McPherson.

To this effect, she has released her lookbook lensed by Lakin Ogunbanwo, and it stars supermodel Mayowa Nicholas.

It won’t be a Lisa collection without print. This season, it is a bunch of heart shapes, possibly created by the strokes of an artist’s brush. She is also in tune with fashion’s current obsession with the shoulders, creating boxy dresses with shoulder cut-outs or off-shoulder silhouettes. She print-blocked some dresses, but they never felt too busy. The modern shapes were of tremendous help.

New to the LF aesthetic was the introduction of the pinstripe. It came as a full suit with yellow tuxedo stripes that extended beyond the hem of the jacket and matching pants that came with draw strings at the ankle. It also appeared in a deconstructed jacket with exposed shoulders held up by two straps.

Paillettes and ruffles were also a big story too. The former was lavishly applied to mesh dresses, jackets and coats, while the latter was haphazardly appliquéd onto bodices and hems.

All in all, it was a show of growth from one of Nigeria’s fashion icons.
