London Mayor, Sadiq Khan has announced that starting next month, adverts which promote negative body images will be banned across the Transport for London (TfL) network – London tubes, buses and trains.
This came as a part of Khan’s mayoral election manifesto. He pledged to ban adverts promoting “unhealthy or unrealistic” body images.
Khan said: “As the father of two teenage girls, I am extremely concerned about this kind of advertising which can demean people, particularly women, and make them ashamed of their bodies. It is high time it came to an end”.
Khan is requesting that Transport for London (TfL) create an advertising steering group to help evaluate ads according his new policy.
