Real Madrid’s profligacies against Atletico Madrid in the Madrid derby went unpunished by their rival, Barcelona, after they lost to Malaga in the last fixture of Sunday.
Zinedine Zidane’s men were held at the Santiago Bernabeu by the visiting Atletico Saturday afternoon before Barcelona failed to capitalize on the slip by the league leaders to close the gap on them as they suffered a 2 – 0 defeat at Malaga.
Pepe headed Madrid into the lead early in the second half, seven minutes after resumption before the inform Antoine Griezzman brought the visitors level five minutes to the end of the match.
Having seen Madrid slip earlier in the day, Barcelona were looking for a win against Malaga so that they can draw level on points with Madrid. But they failed woefully at this as they crumbled at Malaga, even seeing star man, Neymar, shown a red card.
Malaga took the lead through Sandro Ramirez in the 32nd minute. Neymar was show a red card in the 65th minute before Jony added to Malaga’s lead in 90th minute.
With the two results, Madrid sit top of the LaLiga table with 72 points with a game in hand while Barcelona remain on 69th points and sit second.
