Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte, has ruled out the possibility of team captain John Terry and Nigeria’s Super Eagles captain, John Mikel, Obi featuring in Chelsea’s away fixture at Hull City on Saturday.
Conte disclosed this and other issues as it relates to the team at the fixture’s pre-match media conference.
Terry is out with an ankle injury while Mikel is battling a “small muscular problem,” according to Conte.
While Terry is about to miss his fourth straight game for Chelsea, Mikel will have to wait a few more weeks to make his first appearance for Chelsea this season.
Mikel didn’t begin the season with Chelsea due to his engagement with Nigeria’s U-23 team at Rio Olympics as one of two over-aged players.
As captain of Nigeria’s Dream VI, Mikel successfully led the team to a bronze medal, a medal he has since classed as his most cherished trophy.
Conte dwelled a little on the team’s dip in form in its last two Premier League games where it suffered back-to-back losses – the most recent coming in the London derby against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium last Saturday.
He said with great work and hard work, he and the players and the club were trying to change the situation.
“We must think about the present now rather than think about spending money in the future,” Conte added.
