The Fourth edition of the Nigerian Entertainment conference took place at landmark event center in Lagos. The event featured different panels with different speakers and topics. It was hosted by comedian Tee –A and featured performance from Timi Dakolo who sang the national anthem. Some of the speakers and panelists include, Banky W, Kaffy, Tiwa Savage, Nkiru Njoku, Kemi Adetiba, Daryn Wobber, Oye Akideinde, Toyosi Alabi, Adole Onoja, Falz The Bahd Guy and Chris Ihidero.
At the event Falz The Bahd Guy and Chris Ihidero slammed the proposed formation of the Motion Picture Practitioners Council of Nigeria (MOPICON) during a panel.
MOPICON is the proposed bill of the government to create a council that will regulate the Nigerian film industry.
Speaking as a panelist, Falz said that it was ridiculous to imply that people have to be a part of a council before they could showcase their creative ‘motion picture’ content. He said: ‘How can you say if someone wants to post motion picture on YouTube, they have to join a council? The MOPICON Bill is ridiculous’.
Chris Ihidero who is the producer of the MTV Shuga series said there wasn’t any need for the bill/council. He said: ‘Nollywood does not need MOPICON. If it was beneficial, someone would have thought about the idea previously,’ he said. Ihidero also pointed out that other world filmmaking giants such as Hollywood and Bollywood do not have such document and council thereby highlighting its insignificance to Nollywood. He accused the advocates of the bill of merely seeking relevance because they are old filmmakers.
He said ‘The fact that you’ve been around for twenty-one years does not make you my ‘senior colleague”, he said.
