Plateau State Police Command on Tuesday arraigned a 25-year-old mother, Sandra Ishaku, at a Jos Upper Area court, for allegedly selling her four-months-old baby for N100,000.

Ishaku was arraigned along with three others identified as Amaechi Emmanuel, Jones Osim and Gladys Chukwuma.

They were charged with conspiracy, cruelty and child abandonment.

The police prosecutor, L. O. Ocho, Ishaku, told the court that on May 10, Isiaka sold her baby to Chukwuma for N100,000.

Ocho said that the transaction was carried out in Jos, in the chambers of Osim, a legal practitioner.

The prosecutor explained, “Ishaku conspired with Emmanuel and sold her baby to Chukwuma, who had just relocated from Ebonyi State to Jos.”

The Presiding Judge, Yahaya Mohammed, did not take the plea of the accused, but rather remanded three of them.

Ishaku, Emmanuel and Chukwuma were remanded in prison custody, while the matter was adjourned to June 1, when hearing would commence.

The judge granted bail to Osim after his counsel, Lawrence Anya, pleaded that he be released on bail to the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, Plateau State chapter.
