Let’s just start with the obvious; Demna Gvasalia is a genius.
After questioning the relevance of showing Spring clothes in the Fall and vice-versa, he’s combined his menswear and womenswear into one fantastic outing. Not only that, he showcased on the first day of the couture shows on July 3. He was actually welcomed by the governing body of couture, the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture.
The clothes? A mashup of different existing brands that are known for specific things. Amongst its collaborators: Champion and Reebok for the sportswear, Juicy Couture for the velour sweats, Brioni for the suits, Levi’s for the jeans, Dr Martens for the boots, Manolo Blahnik for the brightly coloured waist-high boots, Comme des Garçons shirt for some of the menswear tops, etc.
The treatment of the aforementioned brands were treated vetement style, deconstructed, oversized, and pragmatic. His thinking was, why build from scratch when I’m also heading the Parisian house of Balenciaga? Where is the time?
It is now clearly understood why the brand is the one predicted to move fashion forward.
