The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) troops said on Friday that it had successfully repelled Boko Haram terrorists’ attacks in Baga, Borno.
This is contained in a statement signed by Col. Muhammad Dole, the Chief Military Public Information Officer of the task force.
According to the statement, “in continuation with conduct of Operation GAMA AIKI by Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in its Area of Operation (AOO), the troops of sector 3 in Baga, (Nigeria) had successfully repelled Boko Haram terrorists attacks and cleared more villages around Kangarwa and Doron Naira villages.
“A total of 25 Boko Haram terrorists were feared died, two trucks, mounted with AA guns were recovered.
“Also among seized weapons were, one 60mm Mortar, two RPG tubes, 12 AK 47 rifles, one LMG, one GPMG, assorted ammunitions of various calibre, including a vehicle,’’ it said.
It noted that the troops had continued to spring surprises along suspected logistic supply routes of the terrorists in the general areas of Yoyo and Bashar villages.
“During the encounter some terrorists were killed, two AK 47 rifles and three motorcycles, seven jericans of petrol, as well as assorted drugs were recovered.
“Also, during all these combat operations, the Sector lost one officer and a soldier, with seven soldiers wounded in action.
“The wounded personnel were swiftly evacuated to the nearest medical centre for treatment,’’ it said.
It added that the troops of Sector 1 at Makary area (Cameroon) had continued to dominate the villages and other areas cleared of terrorists.
“Unfortunately during one of the patrols around Mordasse, an Improvised Explosive Device exploded on the patrol team and wounded five personnel and damaged one of the vehicles.
“Both the wounded personnel and vehicle were safely evacuated and the wounded are in stable condition. The cohesion and the fighting spirit of the troops remain high,’’ the statement stressed.
It also said that following heavy combined air strikes by Chadian, Nigerien and Nigerian aircraft at Malkonery, Toumboun Rego and Toumbou Gini areas, the Battle Damage Assessment revealed that the terrorists suffered heavy causalities of men and equipment.
“Meanwhile three suspected terrorists with their arms and ammunitions voluntarily surrendered to the troops of Sector 2 (Chad) and are currently undergoing thorough interrogation,’’ it said.
